Auditions for Seicento Baroque Ensemble

Auditions have been scheduled for Seicento Baroque Ensemble, a 30 voiced chamber choir specializing in historically-informed performance practices of 17th and 18th century music.  We have openings in each section for the 2012-2013 concert year. 
Audition selection criteria
•   sight-singing ability
•   musicianship, e.g., pitch and rhythmic accuracy, phrasing
•   pronunciation in one or more romance languages (or ability to mimic sounds in a foreign language)
•   healthy choral vocal technique
  ability and willingness to control and vary vibrato

*There is no requirement to prepare music or a solo selection.  An individual’s willingness to work outside of rehearsals may balance certain audition shortcomings. 

Rehearsals
Rehearsals are Monday evenings beginning August 20 at First United Methodist Church in downtown Boulder where we are Ensemble in Residence. Concerts are scheduled for October, November and April.  The ensemble does not rehearse during December.

Founded in 2011, Seicento had a highly successful first year, including well-attended concerts in Boulder, Denver and Estes Park; guest artists from the Netherlands, Texas, and a member of Apollo’s Fire; an apprentice artist receiving coaching in the Baroque style; and the ensemble received healthy financial backing. This next season, Seicento will perform for Early Music Colorado’s Fall Festival, in Denver at Saint John’s Cathedral, and on a concert series in Ft. Collins as well as Boulder and Estes Park. Seicento fills a void in the Colorado choral community by specializing in the Baroque period (1600-1750).  Programs focus on lesser-known, early-Baroque choral compositions—music that influenced J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel. The major changes around 1600 set the stage for all future classical and, it can be argued, even today’s pop music.
