Seicento seeks candidates for artistic director

Due to the impending retirement of current Artistic Director Evanne Browne, Seicento is conducting a search for its next artistic director.
Founded in 2011, Seicento Baroque Ensemble is a semi-professional, 36-person auditioned chamber choir performing lesser-known music of the 17th and 18th centuries using historically informed performance practices and period instruments. Seicento’s repertoire favors early and middle Baroque composers who inspired the more familiar masters whose music also may be performed.
Concerts may include collaborations with other period instrumentalists or other musical genre ensembles, dancers, actors, choirs, artwork, or film. Seicento’s mission emphasizes education for choristers, audiences, and students. We also engage and mentor emerging professional musicians in baroque vocal and instrumental technique.
Seicento presents two concerts per year (fall and spring), and one to two outreach workshops or presentations. Regular rehearsals are held in Boulder, Colorado, on Mondays from 7:15 p.m.9:30 p.m., with a hiatus in the summer.
The successful applicant will be expected to be in attendance and prepared for all the functions described herein. Responsibilities of this position include concert programming, artistic and creative duties, and working with Seicento’s board in all administrative and organizational matters.
Desired qualifications/skills include:

  • Master of Music or advanced degree in music, ideally with an emphasis in early music performance techniques and baroque music history, as well as vocal performance and choral conducting; or equivalent experience (minimum two years).
  • Demonstrated success in conducting and/or experience working with a semi-professional chorus, baroque instrumentalists, and singers of various musical skills and experience.
  • Strong planning, financial, and administrative skills, including musical program planning and preparation, budgeting, securing instrumentalists and performance venues, and program production.
  • Interest in and commitment to the mission of Seicento Baroque Ensemble.
  • Demonstration of strong leadership and communication skills, ideally as spokesperson for an artistic organization.
  • U.S. Citizen or legally able to work in the U.S. with a Green Card.
